About Digital Green
Digital Green is a pioneer global not-for-profit organization that uses digital platforms and community-driven approaches to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. Our work focuses on enabling farmers to use technology and data to make better decisions, adopt sustainable agricultural practices, and strengthen local agricultural systems.
Backed by leading philanthropic partners including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Walmart Foundation, USAID, and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UKFCDO), Digital Green works with governments and partners to scale inclusive, data-driven agricultural extension and advisory services worldwide.
About FarmerChat
FarmerChat is Digital Green’s AI-powered conversational platform that helps smallholder farmers access timely advice on crops, livestock, and livelihoods. Built for low-connectivity and low-literacy contexts, FarmerChat combines conversational AI, localized content, and partnerships to support better decision-making by farmers.
As FarmerChat expands across Africa, we are seeking a Senior Growth Manager to lead digital acquisition, activation, and retention. This role will be preferably based in Nigeria, with shared ownership and learning across Kenya and Ethiopia.
What You’ll Do
The Senior Inclusive Digital Growth Manager will lead FarmerChat’s end-to-end growth strategy in Nigeria (primary market), as well as two additional priority African markets: Kenya and Ethiopia, under the Gates Foundation funded FarmerChat Project. With lean country teams, this role requires a hands-on leader who can set direction, run experiments, and use data and AI tools to move quickly.
You will focus on how farmers discover FarmerChat and what drives early value, working closely with product, analytics, program, and country teams to turn insight into action. A core expectation of this role is ensuring that growth translates into equitable access and engagement, with explicit attention to reaching women farmers and other underserved users.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement Digital Green’s FarmerChat growth strategy for Africa, aligning priorities, resources, and execution with broader organizational goals.
- Identify, test, and scale digital acquisition channels using an omni-channel approach, including paid, organic, and partner-led growth.
- Develop, launch, and evaluate integrated digital growth campaigns, including promotional, marketing, and social media efforts across priority markets.
- Ensure growth strategies and experiments are designed and evaluated with an inclusion lens, tracking engagement across key user segments, and addressing gaps in reach or retention.
- Build and maintain growth tracking and attribution foundations; monitor performance across core growth metrics, including digital channels, and translate insights into clear, actionable strategies.
- Optimize digital campaigns across paid, organic, and owned channels (including social media and web), using analytics and SEO tools to improve performance and ROI.
- Use AI and LLM-based tools to accelerate analysis, experimentation, creative iteration, and insight synthesis.
- Collaborate closely with global product, strategy, and country teams to ensure growth efforts are practical, coordinated, and locally grounded.
- Act as a growth leader in lean environments—setting priorities, coaching collaborators, and driving execution.
Internal & external leadership
- Serve as a senior growth voice within Digital Green, helping leadership and product teams stay grounded in farmer realities and market dynamics as FarmerChat scales.
- Represent Digital Green in conversations with donors, partners, and external forums—clearly articulating growth strategy, evidence, and lessons from implementation.
- Contribute to internal and external conversations on inclusive digital growth, including lessons on improving women’s access to AI-enabled agricultural services.
Activities You’re Likely to Work on in Your First 6 Months
- Assess FarmerChat’s current acquisition, activation, and retention performance in Nigeria and identify the highest-impact opportunities for growth.
- Build a clear, shared view of how farmers discover, onboard, and engage with FarmerChat across Nigeria, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
- Launch and evaluate early growth and acquisition strategies focused on onboarding guidance, messaging tone, channel mix, and engagement prompts.
- Define and align teams around a small set of product and growth health metrics used consistently across regions.
- Strengthen tracking and attribution to better understand which channels and partnerships drive sustained engagement.
- Establish a regular growth insights cadence to share learnings across product, country, and leadership teams.
What Success Looks Like
- Clear visibility into FarmerChat’s growth funnel across markets, supported by reliable metrics and dashboards.
- A prioritized pipeline of growth experiments, with early wins validated and low-performing approaches stopped.
- FarmerChat consistently reaches 35% or more women users, with clear visibility into where women’s engagement differs across acquisition, onboarding, and sustained use.
- Strong working relationships with product, analytics, and country teams, with growth insights actively shaping decisions.
- Measurable improvements in digital acquisition efficiency, activation rates, and sustained engagement.
- Scalable, repeatable growth playbooks that work across Nigeria, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
