About Digital Green
Digital Green is a pioneer global not for profit organization, utilizing digital platforms and community-driven approaches to amplify the voices of smallholder farmers and improve their livelihoods. Our mission is to create a world where farmers use technology and data to build prosperous communities. By harnessing the power of technology, we facilitate knowledge sharing, capacity building, and market linkages, enabling farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices and increase their productivity and income.
We are dedicated to transforming the lives of under-served smallholder farmers worldwide through innovative technology solutions. Backed by leading philanthropic organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Walmart Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, other Private Foundations, and UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UKFCDO), we are committed to leveraging data and technology (primarily FarmerChat) to empower smallholder farmers and strengthen agricultural extension systems.
FarmerChat is a multilingual, multimodal, AI-powered App that delivers timely, locally relevant agricultural advisory in the languages farmers speak. It supports smallholder farmers to adopt sustainable and climate-resilient practices, navigate climate shocks, boost productivity and income, and access better market opportunities.
Role Summary
We are looking for a Brazil-based consultant who can support our FarmerChat in Brazil by acting as a technical bridge between Digital Green’s global AI/product teams and Brazilian partners. This person should be comfortable navigating agricultural programs—especially those related to local and public sector markets for smallholder value chains and smallholdefarming—and translating technical discussions into clear next steps for local stakeholders.
This is not a translator role. We need someone who understands the Brazilian ag-tech and public-program context and can facilitate conversations on AI applications, data flows, decision support tools, and possible integrations. This role focuses on conceptual facilitation and translation of technical topics rather than hands-on system development or engineering. The consultant will provide analysis and recommendations; final product and integration decisions rest with Digital Green’s product and program leadership
Initial 40-hour consultancy focused on near-term technical discussions and partner coordination; additional work may be considered separately
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate technical meetings in Portuguese with government, civil society, and ag-tech partners; summarize and translate implications for the product and engineering teams.
- Review and help interpret local technical documentation from partners (e.g., decision support tools (DSTs), protocols, APIs, system diagrams).
- A key requirement is to surface integration constraints and opportunities as we shape our AI-enabled advisory tool, including API. RLHF/feedback pipelines, API interoperability, content/data workflows, and decision support tools/systems.
- Support coordination and follow-up with local partners, including EMBRAPA and select Brazilian NGOs and technical institutes.
- Maintain clear notes, action items, and stakeholder maps.
- Provide context on Brazilian policy and program frameworks relevant to scale-up, including PNAE, PAA, agroecology programs, and digital agriculture initiatives.
- Ensure recommendations are informed by and aligned with Brazilian data governance, privacy (e.g., LGPD), and localization norms.
- Help translate technical discussions into implications, risks, and options for decision-making by Digital Green’s product and program teams.
- Engage in ad hoc technical discussions and check-ins with Digital Green global product, AI, and program teams, as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 5–10+ years in digital agriculture, agricultural extension, ag-tech, applied AI, or adjacent public-sector digital programs.
- Strong understanding of Brazil’s smallholder agriculture ecosystem and exposure to school meals procurement (PNAE), food procurement (PAA), or similar programs.
- Comfortable in facilitating and interpreting technical conversations on:
- AI/LLM use cases in advisory systems
- RLHF or user-feedback loops (conceptual understanding is sufficient)
- API-driven integrations and interoperability concepts
- Decision Support Tools used by public or research institutions
- Experience working across government, NGOs, and tech organizations.
- Excellent written and spoken Portuguese + English.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with digital marketing campaigns, launching new apps.
- Familiarity with MCP/A2A interoperability efforts or similar integration protocols (or willing to learn)
- Previous work with global development donors or public-private digital platforms.
Estimated Hourly Rate (Brazil)
- USD 45–60/hour, with a target rate around USD 50, commensurate with experience and scope
